Jobing Description

Assistant or Associate Professor in Genetics of Human Behavioral or Neurological Phenotypes

The University of Vermont seeks a tenure track assistant or associate professor with training in human genetics to be part of the newly designated Neuroscience, Behavior and Health (NBH) Initiative (http://www.uvm.edu/~nbhspire.edu), to begin August 2012. A Ph.D. in one of the biological sciences, or an M.D. degree, and demonstrated research experience in genetics are required by the time of appointment. The candidate's "tenure home" will be determined at the time of appointment, and based on the individual's background and research interests. The candidate's research program should be directed toward identifying genes or epigenetic mechanisms underlying psychiatric or neurological disorders, or behavioral phenotypes of the nervous system. The successful candidate will join a highly interactive, collegial cohort of scientists throughout the university that is interested in engaging in transdisciplinary collaborations; and will be expected to undertake an active program of research that leads to publication and to seek extramural funding for that research. Teaching, training, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students will be required in this position. Teaching responsibilities will be commensurate with the interactions expected with NBH. NBH represents a significant research strength at the University and has been designated as a "spire of excellence" (http://www.uvm.edu/~tri/)poised to receive strategic investment. A number of excellent molecular and imaging core facilities are available to support this position.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants are requested to include in their letter of interest information about how they will further this goal. The University of Vermont is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer committed to increasing faculty diversity and welcomes applications from women and underrepresented ethnic, racial and cultural groups and from people with disabilities. Candidates must apply online at www.uvmjobs.com. Search for the position using posting number only (#0040187). Include a curriculum vitae; two representative publications; a statement of research focus and potential contributions to the NBH initiative; a statement of teaching interests; and the contact information of three references. The reference providers will be emailed information on how to upload their letters. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2011. Advertising Copy continued:
