Jobing Description
The Customs Compliance Specialist develops, administers and audits Burton s North American customs programs. i.e., ISA, C-TPAT, Reconciliation Program, Free Trade Agreements, Duty Drawback, 10+2.
The compliance specialist is also responsible for our post entry process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Interpret U.S. Customs Law and Regulations
Perform Post Entry Audits for North American Imports
Prepare Post-Entry Adjustments for submission to customs or customs broker in North America
Responsible for maintaining Burton s Import Compliance Manual by reviewing current processes, making changes when necessary and implementing new processes when needed
Responsible for accuracy of NAFTA Certificates and any other supporting documentation for Free Trade Agreement
Responsible for Global labeling requirements and training
Addresses Customs requests for information and other actions, i.e., CF 28 s & 29 s for North America
Manages Drawback Program
Drafts US binding ruling requests for review by the Director of Trade and Import Compliance
Facilitates Export process
Interacts with U.S. Customs
Interacts with all Burton offices on Customs matters
Monitors global trade changes and trends, i.e., NAFTA/GATT implementation, bilateral textile agreements, European Union expansion, etc.
Reviews trade periodicals to keep current on global issues impacting Burton
Performs legal research
Drafts petitions in response to US Customs seizure and penalty actions for supervisor s review.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, or International Trade desired; or the equivalent combination of education plus experience required. Certified Customs Specialist and/or a Customs Broker's License is also preferred. Qualified applicants will have 2-5 years experience working with import transactions (Customs compliance) and a working knowledge of NAFTA and import regulations. Experience must have been gained working for a Customs Brokerage firm or in customs compliance role with an international importer. Qualified applicants will be familiar with U.S. Customs laws and regulations, international shipping and the HTSUS.
Two to five years' experience working with import transactions and customs compliance. Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements, Drawback, Importer Security Filing, Reconciliation Process and other import regulations. Experience must have been gained from working for a customs brokerage firm or in a customs compliance role with an international importer.Effective interpersonal communication skills required (oral and written) with ability to relate with multiple internal stakeholders (i.e. Demand Planning, Finance, Product Development, etc.)
Solid PC skills required, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office products (i.e. Excel, Word, etc.)
Must be detail oriented.
