This is a Lead Software Engineering position with Centricity Group Management (GM) in Burlington, VT. We develop software that manages the day-to-day operations of mid-size physician offices and large billing organizations.
We re one of several product families within Hospital and Large Practice, part of the Clinical Business Solutions team within GE Healthcare IT. Essential Responsibilities As a Lead Programmer, you ll be part of the Centricity Group Management Special Programming team responsible for software application solutions for our healthcare customers. You will extend and enhance established programs written in C for IBM s AIX operating system. You ll also develop C-based CGI applications that create HTML/JavaScript for our web framework.

Your job responsibilities will include:
- Produce high quality/tested/documented code
- Repair defects and maintain existing special programs
- Evaluate feasibility of new requests and estimate time requirements
- Create specifications/contracts for new requested programs
- Create end-user documentation for special programs
- Install and troubleshoot programs on customer systems
- Participate in program and project team meetings
- Work closely with customers to define requirements and provide support
- Work in cross-functional project teams that may involve: Development, Marketing, Software Quality Assurance, Customer Learning and Usability.
- Collaborate on the development of detailed functional specifications, design documents, and test plans
- Communicate and assist internal and external team members whenever possible
- Follow existing GE development methodologies and protocols
Qualifications/Requirements: - BS in CS or related field (or high school diploma/GED and 5 years experience developing software applications)
- Minimum 5 years experience developing software applications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the C language
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing in a Unix environment
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing special programs for the Centricity Group Management application.
- Experience with multi-user application design/development
- Experience with multi-tier application design/development
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- You must be willing to take a drug test

Desired Characteristics - Prior medical software experience
- Hands-on commercial software product development experience
- Hands-on experience in Java, CSS, JavaScript, HTML, various scripting languages
- Hands-on experience in SQL programming
- Math background
- A track record of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- A strong self-starter
- Hands-on experience with enterprise application framework and UI design and implementation
- Strong object oriented analysis & design (OOAD) skills
- Working knowledge of design patterns
- Working knowledge of Interface formats such as HL7
